Chandigarh, June 21: A video in which at least 12 UT traffic cops are seen sleeping at a hall in Himachal Bhawan, Sector 28, went viral on Thursday. On learning about it, the police swung into action and marked an inquiry to establish whether the cops were having rest during duty hours or were off duty.
The video shows the cops sleeping on beds at the hall. While many of them are in uniform, some are lying on the beds with their shirts removed. Sources said the video was shot in the afternoon.
SSP (Traffic) Shashank Anand said he had directed DSP Charanjit Singh to conduct a preliminary inquiry. The sources said the DSP had already visited the spot to probe the matter.
The police said the hall in which the cops were sleeping was meant for drivers and security staff of guests arriving at Himachal Bhawan.
The cops seen in the video are being identified.
“Appropriate action will be taken if it is found that the cops skipped their duties,” said a police official.
