Liyaqat Hussain of Kunaiyan village has been arrested after he confessed to the murder of his sister-in-law, said an official.

He said Hussain lodged a missing report on December 19 in which he stated that his sister-in-law (elder brother’s wife) Shakeela Bi had gone missing after she left for Poonch city from her home a day before.

The woman’s husband who works in the Middle East was not home when the incident took place he said.

The complainant approached the police a day later again saying he had discovered the throat-slit body of his sister-in-law, said the official.

“Soon after this information was received, police teams reached at the spot and recovered the body from the forest area as mentioned by the complainant,” said the official, adding that a case of murder vide FIR no 222/2018 under sections 302 RPC, 4/25 Arms Act was registered at Poonch police station.

During the investigation of the case, the official said, the police checked the call history of the cellphone of the deceased. It came to fore that the complainant had called her multiple times on the day she went missing, he said.

“We got suspicious after checking the call records and investigated the complainant and it was found that he is a notorious criminal booked in four cases,” said the official.

The complainant, he said, was detained and questioned during which he broke down and confessed to his involvement in the crime.
