Chandigarh, July 23: The UT Administration has started sealing coaching institutes violating the fire safety norms.
A team of the enforcement wing of the UT Administration today sealed Rav English Era IETS Institute being run from the first floor of SCO 145 in Sector 24-D after it failed to act on a notice sent by SDM (Central) Nazuk Kumar.
An enforcement official said to ensure that students were not harassed, the institute was sealed before the class began.The SDM had ordered sealing of over 60 coaching centres, which did not comply with the fire safety norms.
The SDM, along with fire officials, had carried out a survey of coaching centres and found large scale violations in institutes being run in Sector 15, 23, 24 and 17.
The checking was carried out in the wake of the Surat fire tragedy that took place on May 24, leaving 22 students dead and several injured.
