Terror Plot Busted: Two Arrested JeM Terrorists Were Planning to Target Lajpat Nagar, Jama Masjid

New Delhi: The two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists arrested by Delhi Police on Thursday had Lajpat Nagar, Jama Masjid, Palika Bazaar and a gas pipeline in East Delhi on their target, reports revealed on Friday. During questioning, the two men, nabbed days ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, accepted to have conducted a recce of these areas.

“Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested two terrorists in the last two days. During questioning, it was revealed that the terrorists planned to target Lajpat Nagar and a gas pipeline in East Delhi, they had conducted a recce of the two areas,” sources were quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The two JeM men, arrested on charges of planning to carry out terror strikes in the national capital, were identified as Abdul Latif Ganaie (29), alias Umair alias Dilawar, and Hilal Ahmad Bhat (26) residents of Jammu and Kashmir’s Wakura and Batapora areas, respectively.

The police arrested Dilawar on the intervening night of January 20-21 following a tip-off from military intelligence which revealed about frequent visits made by suspicious persons to a house in Laxmi Nagar. Subsequently, the police laid a trap to nab him. He was arrested near Rajghat with incriminating material, including a .32 bore pistol, 26 live cartridges, three rubber stamps of JeM commanders, among other things.
