Authorities on Saturday suspended the mobile Internet service in Kashmir fearing that the militants might use the service to sabotage the R-Day functions.

Mobile Internet service of all cellular companies, including state-run BSNL, was suspended in Kashmir on Saturday morning as a precautionary measure to avert any untoward incident on R-Day, said an official.

The broadband service, however, was working though with low speed.

Every year on Aug 15 and Jan 26, authorities suspend the services in what has now become part of an ‘e-curfew’ on these days.

In the past, militants had used mobile phones to detonate Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Kashmir.
