Srinagar, February 26: Amid escalating tension along the Line of Control with Indian Air Force jets launching attacks deep inside Pakistan, the cross-LoC trade activity in Kashmir carried on unhindered.
Seventy trucks laden with goods crossed the Line of Control in Uri in north Kashmir despite the fact that Indian jets were hovering over the skies in Kashmir in the wake of the overnight raids by the IAF across the line of Control.
“The trade activity was not affected today. We carried on with the exchange of the goods across LoC. From our side, 35 goods laden trucks crossed the Kaman Bridge at LoC and reached Chakothi at around 12.30pm,” said Hilal Turki, the president of the Cross-LoC Traders Union, who was still supervising the trade activity at the Salamabad Tarde Facilitation Centre in the Uri, just 15 kilometers away from LoC.
He said that an equal number of goods laden trucks from the Pakistan side also crossed the Kaman Bride in Uri and reached the trade centre this afternoon.
It is pertinent to mention that despite the February 14 Pulwama suicide bombing attacks, the trade activity between PoK and Jammu and Kashmir via Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road had resumed on February 19 and yesterday the Cross-LoC Peace Bus between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad also plied after a week’s suspension.
