Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebel Shatrughan Sinha is set to join the Congress party on March 28. Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh on Tuesday announced that the actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha will join the party at 11:30 am on Thursday.
The development has come a few days after the BJP dropped him from the Patna Sahib seat. The actor-turned-politician was a two-time Lok Sabha MP from the Bihar constituency.
Sources have revealed that Shatrughan Sinha had been looking to join the Congress ever since his name was dropped from the BJP’s Bihar candidates list. Sinha has not quit the Bharatiya Janata Party yet.
They have also said that Shatrughan Sinha will join the Congress in presence of party chief Rahul Gandhi. He is likely to be fielded from the Patna Sahib seat against the BJP candidate and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Last week, the BJP announced candidates for 39 out of the total 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The party dropped Shatrughan Sinha from his Patna Sahib seat and instead fielded Ravi Shankar Prasad in his place.
Shatrughan Sinha had won the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Miffed over this, Shatrughan Sinha had said that he was capable of paying back. Earlier, he had dropped hints that he would take a decision on his future plans only after the NDA releases its candidate list for Bihar.
Earlier in the day, Shatrughan Sinha showered praise on Rahul Gandhi, calling him the “master of situation” and his proposed minimum income guarantee scheme–‘NYAY’ a “masterstroke”. He also slammed the BJP for doubting the feasibility of the proposed scheme.
