Woman dies, family has a narrow escape as fire breaks out in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, September 26:A woman died of suffocation on Thursday morning as a fire broke out at a house/store near Ludhiana’s Damoria Bridge. 

The deceased was identified as Harsh Chawla, 54. While her family members husband Charanjit, son Manish, his wife Ayushi and their children had a miraculous escape.

The family lived in a multi-storey building. The entire building, along with a scooter and a motorcycle, was gutted.

An ATM of IndusInd Bank, which was to be inaugurated on Thursday, suffered damages. 

The fire broke out around 6 am and was doused by 8 am. Around 25 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.  

Sub-fire officer Aatish Rai, who was first to reach the spot, said the five members of the family were rescued by the firemen by placing a ladder on the backside of the house, while the woman was brought outside from the first gate. She was unconscious and was later declared brought dead by doctors.
