A complete shutdown is being observed Sunday in north Kashmir’s Kupwara town to mark the 25th anniversary of Kupwara massacre.
All the private business establishments and shops remained closed while public transport was off from the roads.
Authorities have deployed forces personnel in strength to prevent any protest march by the people.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for shutdown in the town.
On 27 January 1994, 27 persons fell to the bullets of army men in Kupwara town.
The survivors had claimed that the massacre was carried out by the soldiers to punish the people for observing shutdown on January 26 (India’s Republic Day).
