Protests erupt after army vehicle crushes forest officer to death in Handwara

Protests erupted in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday after an army vehicle hit a car, leading to death of a forest officer near Chowgal village.

Reports said that an army vehicle hit a car at Chowgal area of Handwara, which resulted in on-spot death of assistant director forest protection force Handwara Ajaz Rasool Wani.

An official said Wani was declared dead on arrival at Chowgal hospital.

After the incident, the locals took to the streets and blocked Sopore-Kupwara road as a mark of protest.

However, police reached the spot and fired some tear gas shells to disperse the protesters.
