Special provisions for J&K migrant voters

Shimla: Migrant voters of Jammu and Kashmir will have choice to either vote by postal ballot or at special booths set up in Udhampur, Jammu and Delhi, according to directions issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Chief Electoral Officer Devesh Kumar said to exercise their franchise by postal ballot, migrant voters would have to fill Form 12C. All electoral registration officers (EROs) in the state had been directed to assist these voters.

He said the migrant workers would have to submit the forms to their respective EROs along with necessary documents supporting the details of family members and whether all were residents of the constituency at present. The form could be downloaded from the ECI website or the National Voter Service Portal. It was mandatory for the applicant to mention the current residential proof and attach along with the migration certificate issued by the Residential Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir.

They would also have to enter the name of the parliamentary constituency that they represented. The applicant would not be allowed to cast vote in case of dual registration.
