In his complaint to the CBI, Ramesh, who runs a tavern in Mauli Jagran, alleged that the SHO of the Mauli Jagran police station demanded a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh for not registering a case against his nephew and others. The bribe amount was negotiated and reduced to Rs 55,000, after which the complainant gave Rs 10,000 to the cops the same day.
Ramesh then approached the CBI with his complaint following which a trap was laid outside the tavern at Mauli Jagran today.
CBI sleuths claimed that Constable Surinder Rathi took Rs 45,000 on behalf of the SHO, after which he was nabbed. The constable was then asked to make a call to the SHO to inform him about the money being received.
The CBI sleuths then reached the Mauli Jagran police station and arrested the SHO.
Sources said another constable’s role in the case was also being probed, who was at large.
A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B of the IPC has been registered against both suspects. The duo will be produced before the CBI court tomorrow.
Baljit Singh was held for graft earlier too
