Chandigarh, May 29:From Delhi to Amritsar, several parts across north India have been gripped by the heat wave.The national capital and other parts of the country are unlikely to get a reprieve from the scorching heat this week, the weather office has predicted, saying temperatures may soar to 45 degrees in Delhi and Amritsar, while Chandigarh will have a marginal respite with a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, according to Sky Met.
Heat wave conditions have spread across two-thirds of the country. In north India, the heat wave prevails in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh besides in Himachal Pradesh, which will see temperatures around 31 degrees through the week.
The heat wave has also affected normal life in Rajasthan where Bikaner recorded the highest temperature at 45.6 degrees Celsius. Temperatures are likely to go up by two to three degrees across the north India.
Delhi woke up to a hot Wednesday morning, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 44 degrees Celsius.
“Dry conditions are also setting in with the rise in temperatures. The relative humidity at 8.30 am was 34 per cent,” said a MeT Department official.
As temperatures shot up in several states, wildfires were also reported in the forests of Uttarakhand.
