Sangrur, October 29: An owner of a sweet shop in Malerkotla on Tuesday allegedly shot his wife dead, and then fired at his son, before he committed suicide with his licensed revolver.
The man has been identified as Vijay Kumar Jain (40), wife Asha Jain (38) and son Sahil Jain (13).
The incident was reported at 5 in the morning. After hearing the gunshots, the neighbours informed the police.
DSP Sumit Sood said the wife died on the spot, while the man succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
The son, who is a Class 9 student, was said to be seriously injured and was taking treatment at DMC hospital.
SSS Sangrur Sandeep Garg said that a relative told him that the sweet owner was under depression.
