Ludhiana, April 29:Four members of a marriage party, including the bride, were killed when the SUV in which the newlywed couple was travelling collided with a combine here this morning.
The Mahindra Bolero was heading towards Tibba Road here from Jagadhri in Haryana after the wedding when it met with the accident near Dhandari Kalan on the New Delhi-Amritsar highway. Two others, including the groom, were injured.The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old bride Heena, Zareena, Jamshed Alam and Husan Bano. The injured are groom Anjum (25) and Rukhsana, his relative.
The injured have been admitted to SPS Apollo Hospital, where the groom’s condition is stated to be critical.The groom’s family said they had left Jagadhri around 5 am and the accident took place around 7.30 am. Sources said Jamshed Alam was driving the SUV, which was badly damaged in the crash.
The driver of the combine fled the scene. Area residents pulled the victims out of the mangled SUV and took them to hospital, where the bride and three others were declared brought dead. Sahnewal SHO Iqbal Singh said the police have registered a case under Sections 279 (rash or negligent driving) and 304 (homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC against the unidentified driver of the combine.
