Jan 31: A 27-year old Mohammed Mahuwala was arrested for allegedly cheating Amazon India of nearly Rs 30 lakh. Cyber police are also investigating role of some suspected employees working in Amazon India’s local warehouse.

Mahuwala was arrested after Amazon India filed a complaint.

Mahuwala was identified as a member of a gang that was using multiple accounts on the e-commerce platform using fake e-mail IDs and mobile numbers. With the help of these accounts, the gang used to order expensive, branded mobile phones and so many other high-tech gadgets of big companies.

The gang then used to request Amazon India to initiate refund of the amount paid in exchange for these gadgets by saying that the parcel sent by Amazon India was empty. However, the reality was little different.

The gang used to take those costly, branded gadgets out of the box and sell them to local shopkeepers at lower price.

The police investigation revealed the gang has ordered 50 gadgets including the costly mobile phones costing around Rs. 30-lakh and fraudulently got the refund of the same amount.

The police recovered two expensive branded mobile phones, a wireless router, a headphone, two smartwatches and a credit card from Mahuwala. The detail investigation and search for the other gang members is underway.
