Pak Sikh girl ‘forced’ conversion to Islam returns home; 8 held

New Delhi, August 31: A 19-year-old Sikh girl, who was allegedly “abducted” and “threatened”, and then “forced” to convert into Islam in Pakistan, has returned home to her parents.

The Nankana Sahib Police have arrested eight people in the case, as per media reports. The girl—Jagjit Kaur—was allegedly kidnapped and forced to marry a Muslim man in Pakistan. 

The girl’s father, identified as Bhagwan Singh, is a ‘granthi’ (priest) at gurdwara Tambu Sahib.

The incident was shared by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday, where he demanded Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s immediate intervention into the matter.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared a video of the girl’s family alleging that the girl was kidnapped and forcefully converted.

 The incident had drawn the attention of Sikhs worldwide and sparked anger in the community.
