Chandigarh, December 30: The crime branch of the local police today arrested three members of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Raju Basoida gang who were allegedly involved in the murder of two youths at a house in Sector 15 on December 19.
The police nabbed the main accused, Ankit Narwal, along with Sunil, alias Sillu Nandal, and Vicky, alias Kalia, while they were allegedly on their way to Chandigarh to kill another target, Ashu Nain, with whom they had an old enmity along with the two victims who were murdered in Sector 15.
On a tip-off, a trap was laid by the crime branch today near the DT Mall light point. As soon as a Polo car coming from the Dolphin Chowk side entered, the police signalled the driver of the vehicle, Nandal, to stop. However, he accelerated the vehicle and fled towards Kishangarh Chowk.
The police chased the car and nabbed the accused near Kishangarh Chowk. Two country-made weapons along with four live cartridges were seized from the car. The passports of Narwal and Vicky were also seized. The accused were planning to fly abroad after committing the crime, said the police.
The accused told the police that they were coming to Chandigarh to murder Ashu Nain. They reportedly confessed that they had committed the Sector 15 double murder with the help of Deepak and Amit.
Two teams were constituted to crack the case and arrest the gangsters. Raids were conducted in Haryana, Rajasthan, UP, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi. Vital information about the movement of the accused was gathered through these raids and Narwal was found roaming with his accomplices in Panchkula in a Polo car. The same vehicle was used by the accused to flee after committing the double murder.
The accused will be produced in the court tomorrow. The police said efforts were being made to arrest the remaining accused in the case.
Vineet Kumar and Ajay were murdered by four assailants at a house in Sector 15.
Old enmity to blame
The accused and the victims were actively involved in student politics and entered into verbal spats several times. In November, a quarrel took place between accused Ankit Narwal and Ashu Nain and his accomplices Vineet Kumar and Ajay.
Narwal and Vicky received injuries in the quarrel after Ashu Nain attacked them with a bottle on their head and stomach. Since then, Narwal wanted to seek revenge from Nain and his accomplices.
