Chandigarh Administration waives six months’ fees for Classes 9, 10

Decision aims at alleviating financial constraints enforced by coronavirus pandemic

Chandigarh, July 3: The Chandigarh Administration has announced waiver of annual and monthly fees for Classes 9 and 20 in government schools for the first six months of academic session 2020-21.

An official order by UT Education Principal Secretary Arun Gupta reads: “In view of present situation due to COVID.19 and the economical background of the parents of students studying in Government Schools of Chandigarh, Annual and Monthly funds of class 9th and 10th students studying in Government Schools is hereby waived off for the first six months of academic session 2020-21 i.e. from April-2020 to September-2020 as one time measure.” 

The existing fee structure for Classes 9 and 10 includes annual charges of Rs 164 and monthly dues of Rs 152.

No tuition fee is charged from girl students. Such waiver is also offered to boys from Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Classes category, as also wards of ex-servicemen, widow and physically challenged students with parental annual income less than Rs 1.5 lakh.

Apart from tuition fee, all other monthly and annual charges are halved for boys and girls of SC category.  

The development comes in the middle of an ongoing pandemic in the country, and is aimed at alleviating parents’ financial constraints.
