5 more Covid-19 cases in Chandigarh, total count crosses 100

Bapu Dham alone accounts for 48, first death reported on Sunday

Chandigarh, May 3: Five more Covid positive cases were reported from city’s Bapu Dham colony in Sector 26 taking the total count to 102.

Officials said the total count reached 97 by 7 pm yesterday and today morning reports of five more came in. Chandigarh now has the highest Covid cases in tricity. In Mohali, total cases are 95 while in Panchkula 18 people tested positive. From Bapu Dham alone as many as 48 people have tested positive for Corona. 

On Sunday, the city saw its first Covid death and three new cases, two from Sector 30-B and one from Bapu Dham Colony. 

An 82-year-old woman of Sector 18 here, who was undergoing treatment at Alchemist Hospital in Panchkula, passed away on Sunday. She was a patient of chronic asthma along with heart disease (hypertension). Lately, she had episodes of loss of consciousness.

The woman went to one of her sons’ house in Panchkula on April 18. She was later admitted to Alchemist Hospital after she felt sick. She tested positive for Covid on April 20. A three-year-old baby and a 40-year-old man, both residents of Sector 30-B, have been reported Covid positive. Both are from the same family. They are contacts of a positive case in the same house. Three others from the same house have tested negative for Covid.

A 13-year-old boy from Bapu Dham Colony too has tested positive for Covid. The patient’s 11 family contacts and 82 community contacts have been traced and quarantined.

2 discharged from PGI

Two Covid patients were discharged from the PGI today. One of them is a 50-year-old man from Kachi Colony, Dhanas, who is a PGI employee, and the other a 56-year-old man of Sector 30-B. The Dhanas resident was admitted to the PGI on April 17. The Sector 30 resident was discharged after a 20-day stay at the Nehru Hospital Extension on the PGI premises.
