Three CRPF troopers killed in militant attack in Handwara

Srinagar, May 4: Three troopers of the Central Reserve Police Force were killed in a militant attack in Wangam Qaziabad in Handwara, officials said.

Details of the incident are still sketchy, but officials said additional forces have rushed to area and a cordon has been laid to trace the attackers.

The development comes a day after five personnel, including a decorated Commanding Officer of Army’s elite counter-insurgency unit, a Major and a J&K police officer, killed in a gunfight at a village in Handwara.

Two militants, including a Pakistan national, were also killed in the incident.

A five-member team led by Col Ashutosh Sharma of 21 Rashtriya Rifles were killed when they entered a house occupied by militants in Chanjimullah village to pull out civilians, army said. With PTI inputs
