Srinagar, March 9: Security forces gunned down a militant after an encounter broke out on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said.
As of the last update, the encounter was still underway and the militant’s identity was yet to be ascertained, a police official said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Reban area of the south Kashmir district on Monday morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there, he said.
The official said the operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated.
