Srinagar, April 9: Kashmir witnessed a major jump in Covid-19 positive cases on Thursday after 24 persons were tested positive for the virus, a development that causes the union territory’s infection tally to climb to 184 cases with four deaths.
The fresh cases include 11 family members of a person, who was killed by the virus on Monday, of Gund Jahangir village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Officials said 24 samples have been tested positive for the CoVID-19, including 21 at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and three at Chest Disease hospital in Srinagar.
“24 more positive cases in Kashmir. Total 184. 32 in Jammu, 152 in Kashmir. All are contacts. A result of aggressive testing,” said government spokesperson Rohit Kansal.
Majority of the positive cases are from north Kashmir, with eight from Baramulla’s Tangmarg area and 12 from Gund Jahangir area of Bandipora district.
Officials said 11 family members of person, who was killed by the virus on Monday, of Gund Jahangir village have tested positive for the Covid-19 today at SKIMS, Soura.
The three persons who tested positive for virus at CD hospital Srinagar belong each to Srinagar, Anantnag, and Kulgam.
Officials at CD hospital said 94 samples were tested today of which three were found positive and 91 negative.
They said 98 samples were under process for testing while as 150 fresh samples have been collected for testing.
With increase in testing for CoVID-19 in past one week, Kashmir witnessed a major jump of positive cases on Wednesday when 30 persons were found positive for the virus. Three tested positive in Jammu on Wednesday.
At least 40,336 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance, which include 8,494 persons in home quarantine, 130 in hospital quarantine, 518 in hospital isolation and 23,364 under home surveillance.
