Srinagar, June 15: A teenager has died with Covid-19 in Kashmir, taking the coronavirus death toll in J&K to 60, officials said on Monday.

An 18-year-old boy from Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district died at Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital. He had suffered head injuries during a scuffle and was taken to a hospital on Friday.

“He had serious head injuries besides bilateral pneumonia,” said medical superintendent SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Choudhary. “We collected his sample for coronavirus testing, which was positive,” Choudhary said.

So far, 60 people have died with or of Covid-19 in J&K, which include 53 in Kashmir and seven in Jammu region.

Four persons died with Covid-19 and 163 others, including 15 cops, tested positive for coronavirus, on Sunday, taking the total caseload in J&K to 5,041. Of the total cases, 3,878 have been reported from Kashmir, while Jammu has reported 1,163.

Srinagar district has reported 13 Covid-19 deaths, the highest of any district in J&K, followed by 11 in Baramulla, eight in Kulgam, five each in Anantnag, Shopian and Kupwara, Four in Jammu, three in Budgam, two in Pulwama, and one each in Udhampur, Rajouri, Doda and Bandipora.
