New Delhi, March 16: The Lok Sabha on Monday witnessed ruckus after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asked the government to provide the names of the top 50 wilful defaulters in the country.

After Gandhi found the written reply to the question unsuitable, he asked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to provide him with a list of the defaulters.

He said the condition of the banking system was “very bad” and more banks could end up like the crisis-hit Yes Bank.

Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur rose to respond to Gandhi’s question and said the names of defaulters above Rs 25 lakh were available on the CIC website. Thakur added that most of the advances had been made during the UPA regime.

Thakur said the question had been asked to “blame” the deeds of the Congress-led government on the Narendra Modi government.

The effort by a senior member to put a question mark on the entire banking system speaks of his “nasamjhi” (lack of understanding), Thakur said.

When Thakur referred to a painting “sold” by Gandhi’s sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor and claimed he could prove the association between them, Congress leaders broke into a protest and started shouting slogans.
