JK records 108 new positive cases and 01 death today, 542 cases recovered till date
JAMMU, MAY 16: The Government Saturday informed that 108 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), 22 from Jammu division and 86 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1121. Also 01 death has been reported from SKIMS, Soura whose sample tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 1121 positive cases, 567 are Active Positive, 542 have recovered and 12 have died.
Moreover, 29 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 03 from Jammu division and 26 from Kashmir Division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 76191 test results available, 75070 samples have tested as negative till May 16, 2020.
Additionally, till date 109092 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 29243 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 107 in Hospital Quarantine, 567 in hospital isolation and 14114 under home surveillance. Besides, 65049 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Bandipora has 135 positive cases with 09 Active Positive, 125 recovered (including 03 recoveries today), 01 death; Srinagar has 156 positive cases (including 03 reported today) with 68 Active Positive, 84 recovered, 04 deaths; Anantnag district has 162 positive cases (including 17 cases reported today), with 133 Active Positive, 28 recovered (including 02 recoveries today), 01 death; Baramulla has 118 positive cases (including 02 cases reported today) with 35 Active Positive, 80 recovered (including 13 recoveries today), 03 deaths; Shopian has 107 positive cases with 43 Active Positive, 64 recovered (including 01 recovery today); Kupwara has 97 positive cases (including 12 reported today) with 49 Active Positive, 48 recovered; Budgam has 57 positive cases (including 05 cases reported today), with 28 Active Positive and 28 recovered cases (including 7 recoveries today) 01 death; Ganderbal has 23 positive cases with 09 Active positive cases and 14 recoveries; Kulgam has 119 positive cases (including 47 reported today), with 113 Active Positive and 06 recoveries; Pulwama reported 15 positive cases with 10 active positive, 05 recovered.
Similarly, Jammu has 39 positive cases with 11 active positive cases and 27 recoveries (including 01 recovery today) and 01 death; Udhampur has 24 positive cases with 04 active positive case, 19 recovered and 01 death; Samba has 11 positive cases with 05 Active Positive and 06 recoveries (including 02 recoveries today); Rajouri has 05 positive cases with 01 active positive case and 04 recovered; Kathua has 31 positive cases (including 10 cases reported today) with 30 Active positive and 01 recovered; Kishtwar had only 01 positive case who has recovered; Ramban has 18 positive case (including 12 reported today) with 17 active positive and 01 recovered while Reasi has 03 positive cases with 02 active positive and 01 recovered.
The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.
As per the bulletin, the public has been informed that, people can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus; The disease spreads primarily from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth, which are expelled when a person with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes, or speaks. People can catch COVID-19 if they breathe in these droplets from a person infected with the virus. This is why it is important to stay at least 2 meter away from others. These droplets can land on objects and surfaces around the person such as tables, door knobs, hand rails etc. People can become infected by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. This is why it is important to wash your hands regularly with soap and water or clean with alcohol-based hand rub.
The bulletin again explains that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease so we need to be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us. “Not disclosing symptoms could put life of individuals and their families at risk. In case of symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing report early. Do not fear, call COVID-19 helpline numbers and seek medical advice”.
As a measure for social distancing in public places & workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
Advisory urged people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary. “If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent handwashing with soap and water.”

Public is advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the government from time to time and are urged to rely only on the information released by the government through the daily media bulletin to print and electronic media.
People are also advised to refrain from spreading rumours and pay no heed to them at the same time.
