J&K govt appoints apex advisory panel to review guidelines for treatment of Covid patients

Jammu, June 16: Against the backdrop of the recent surge in a number of coronavirus patients in the Union Territory (UT), Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday late evening constituted an apex level advisory committee to review the protocol, guidelines and other related issues about the treatment of COVID-19 patients and their implementation.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department, Dr Mohd Sultan Kharoo, former director SKIMS, Soura and vice chairman, Apex Selection Committee, SKIMS have been appointed as the chairman of the committee.

The committee has been entrusted the task to review the protocol and guidelines and other related issues relating to the treatment of COVID-19 patients, measures to be taken to control COVID-19 pandemic and other related matters and advise the government on these issues.

The total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir has gone up to 5,220 with 179 new cases on Monday. 

Three COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir division, taking the tally to 62. 

The order said that Dr A G Ahangar, Director and Ex-Officio Secretary, SKIMS, Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and Srinagar, Dr. Rajinder Singh, former professor and head, Chest Diseases and Principal GMC Jammu, Dr. Javid Malik, Head, Pulmonary Medicine, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina Srinagar, Dr. Anil Sharma, Professor & Head, Department of Medicine, GMC Jammu, Dr. Naveed Nazir, Professor and Head, Chest & Diseases, GMC Srinagar, Dr. Aijaz Nabi Koul, Additional Professor General Medicine & Head Infectious Disease Unit, SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar and Dr. Simriti Gulati, Prof & Head, Department of Anesthesiology, GMC Jammu have been nominated as the members of the panel.

Dr. Rahul Gupta, Professor and Head, Chest Diseases, GMC Jammu has been appointed as the member secretary of the panel.
