Encounter breaks out between security forces, militants in J-K’s Kishtwar district

Doda, April 17: An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kistwar district on Friday, police said.

Security forces exchanged fire with two militants in a forest in Dachan in Kishtwar district. The militants had recently killed a special police officer and injured another.

Police said that after the April 13 incident, police had launched a cordon and search operation and managed to establish contact with the militants on Friday.

A police spokesman said, “Four days back two SPOs of Kishtwar District were attacked by two suspects of Dachan area with Axes killing one and injuring another. Police parties rushed and gave a chase through jungles and mountainous terrain. They were reinforced with additional police parties and local Army unit. Some time back contact established and exchange of fire started.”

The gunfight is on, the official said, adding further details are awaited.
