Srinagar May 21 : Two women, who suffered from COVID-19, died on Thursday, taking the coronavirus-linked toll to 20 in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
A 70-year-old woman, from Parisabad Budgam, died at the Chest Disease (CD) Hospital in Srinagar. Another 80-year-old woman, from Bemina Srinagar, died at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) on Wednesday evening and was declared positive for coronavirus after her post mortem.
“A 70-year-old female from Budgam died today in CD Hospital after sudden cardiac,” said Dr Muhammad Salim Khan, the COVID-19 nodal officer for Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and associated hospitals.
Khan said she was initially admitted at SMHS hospital on May 15 and tested positive for COVID-19 on May 18.
“We immediately shifted her to CD Hospital as a case of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease with restrictive lung disease and COVID-19 pneumonia,” Khan said.
He said another woman from Usmania Colony, Bemina Srinagar was admitted to SMHS hospital with bilateral pneumonia and hypertension on May 19.
“She was kept in the isolation ward and died Wednesday evening. She was kept in GMC Srinagar mortuary and her sample for coronavirus test came positive today,” Khan said.
