CHANDIGARH ,25 April : Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh. VP Singh Badnore today presided over Daily War Room meeting. The meeting was attended by Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser, UT, Chandigarh and Sh. Sanjay Beniwal, Director General of Police at Raj Bhawan. The Administrator also interacted with Sh. Arun Gupta, Principal Secretary (Home), Sh. AK Sinha, Finance Secretary, Sh. KK Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation and Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, Deputy Commissioners of Mohali & Panchkula, Director-PGIMER, Director Health Services and Director Principal, GMCH through Video Conferencing.
WAR ROOM DIRECTIONS
- The Administrator, UT expressed deep concern about the outbreak of a new positive case in Bapu Dham Colony: particularly because the area is quite congested and the patient used to work in GMCH-32. He directed Principal Secretary (Health) to ensure that all contacts of the patients are traced and necessary quarantine is done. He also directed Director General of Police, Sh. Sanjay Beniwal to initiate criminal proceedings against the patient for reportedly hosting a celebratory party in his house a few days back, thereby violating both curfew orders and social distancing norms.
- Director, PGIMER brought to the knowledge of the Administrator about the non-critical patients being sent to PGIMER without prior checking for COVID-19. The Administrator directed Principal Secretary (Health) to take up the matter with the neighbouring states and to ensure that necessary screening is done before such patients are treated in our hospitals. He expressed apprehension that if the major hospitals of the Chandigarh become a hub for infection, then the entire health management system will get crippled. He appealed to all the citizens of Chandigarh to cooperate with the medical teams going for door to door survey and not to hide any information from them regarding their illness or travel etc.
• Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary (Health) informed that 130 contacts of the patient of Bapu Dham Colony have been identified and necessary steps are being taken to quarantine them. He also stated that the hostels of Panjab University are being requisitioned only as a last resort to keep as a standby for COVID Care in the extreme case of widespread infection. He clarified that the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of Panjab University have been personally requested to ensure that the students are not put to any difficulty. No student will be required to come to pick up their belongings during the curfew period. Their belongings will be stored safely in the store room by the University authorities.
• Sh. Vinod P. Kavle stated that today 3,000 families have been given wheat and pulses under PMGKAY in Mauli Complex, Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran etc. area after following due procedure of coupon distribution and social distancing. Till date, 33,600 beneficiaries have been given the foodgrains.
• Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner stated that 1.57 lac cooked food packets have been distributed among the destitutes and needy persons in various parts of the city yesterday. He also stated that till date, 21,49,000 food packets have been distributed among the needy and poor. Administrator is grateful to all the Gurudwara’s, NGOs/ Self Help Groups for their cooperation for the above.
• Sh. A K Sinha, Finance Secretary stated that accumulated 4,750 MT of wheat has been procured from the farmers in Grain Market, Sector 39, Chandigarh.
• Sh. K K Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal stated that a new Control and Command Centre has been opened for monitoring Covid Management in the city. The officials will be able to supervise distribution of vegetable, fruits, milk, bread and sanitation work in the control room. He also stated that 33,115 online home deliveries have been made to residents during the curfew period.
• Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser stated that he attended a Video Conference with the Cabinet Secretary today. The Government of India has decided that non-essential shops and commercial establishments will not be allowed to open in containment zone. Since the entire Chandigarh has been declared as a containment zone, the exemptions available in other states could not be given to local residents. He also stated that Government of India instructed banks and financial institutions to provide certain relief to industries who have taken loans from them. Sh. Parida added that factories, plants etc. could not be permitted in containment zone as per the Central Government guidelines. He stated that Central Government will review the situation on 3rd of May, 2020 and will convey appropriate directions to the UT, regarding relaxations, if any.
• The Administrator alongwith Adviser and Director General of Police will attend video conference being taken by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 27/04/2020 (Monday). The Central Government is likely to make major announcements after the video conference.
