Srinagar/Anantnag, May 25: Two militants were killed in an ongoing operation in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said.
The gunfight erupted on Monday morning when security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Mirwani Damhal, Hanjipora, area following an input about militants’ presence.
“As the cordon was being laid, hiding militants opened fire triggering a gunfight. In the operation so far, two militants have been killed,” an official said, adding that the operation is still under way.
The identity of the slain militants has not been ascertained yet.
Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been suspended in Kulgam and neighbouring Shopian district as a precautionary measure.
