Curfew extended in Himachal’s Hamirpur till June 30 as coronavirus cases continue to rise

Hamirpur, May 25: Authorities extended curfew in Hamirpur until June 30 on Monday, an official said, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the district. 

Hamirpur has almost a fourth of the Himachal’s 214 cases. Some 57 of the district’s 63 cases are still active.

 The state has reported one death so far.

The development comes hours after a 55-year-old woman from Hamirpur who suffered from chronic kidney problems died at Shimla’s Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla, where she was brought for dialysis on May 23. 

The woman was from Dugha area of Hamirpur town. 

Hamirpur also reported another new case on Monday—a woman who recently returned form Mumbai tested positive. 

News agency PTI reported on Sunday that some 10,000 people are estimated to have returned from red zones to Hamirpur district in the last four weeks. —Agencies
