Srinagar, June 25: A gunfight between militants and security forces broke out in north Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district on Thursday, officials said.

The gunfight erupted at Hardshiva village in Sopore, some 60 km from Srinagar, when the joint teams of police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area following an input about militants’ presence.

“As the suspected area was being cordoned, the hiding militants opened fire triggering a gunfight. The operation is under way,” a security official said.
