SCHOOL RENAMED AS ‘SHAHEED SEPOY SUDESH KUMAR GOVERNMENT MIDDLE SCHOOL BATTAL’

Battal, Jammu: Government Middle School Battal has been renamed as Shaheed Sepoy Sudesh Kumar Government Middle School Battal to acknowledge the supreme sacrifice made by him in the line of duty.

A host of dignitaries were present on the occasion and paid floral tributes in the memory of Late Sepoy Sudesh Kumar. Senior officers of Indian Army and his regiment fellow men also were present to pay homage and respect to the fallen hero.

His parents, wife and other family members, including his brother Mr. Rakesh Kumar, who is working with School Education Department and currently posted at Directorate of School Education, Jammu head office situated at Muthi, Jammu fondly remembered the late sepoy on the occasion, sharing details about his glorious life and death.

Speaking to www.paigaam.in , Mr. Rakesh Kumar said that the larger than life persona of his brother would inspire the coming generations and instill a sense of patriotism amongst the students of the school in particular and the society in general.

Late Sepoy Sudesh Kumar, son of Mrs. Satya Devi and Mr. Krishan Lal, resident of Battal was born on 10th of March 1978 and was an alumnus of this very school.

He joined Indian Army as a Sepoy in the 13th Dogra Regiment and received his training at Faizabad.

During his lifetime he served in different parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim and Jammu and Kashmir.

He made the supreme sacrifice by laying down his life in an encounter at Surankote area of district Poonch on  4th of November, 2003.

He was posted with 31 RR ( Commando ) on the fateful day.

For his bravery and supreme sacrifice he was honoured with Sena Seva Medal posthumously.

Schools, roads, educational institutions and other important places of significance are being renamed after people who have laid down their lives for the security and integrity of the nation along with eminent personalities and living legends.

A list of 76 schools, colleges and roads was issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir (Union Territory) in the month of October 2021 that were to be renamed in the initial phase in pursuance to the Administrative Council  decision number 117/15/2021 dated October 19, 2021 which met under the chairmanship of Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha.

The initiative has been taken as part of  the ongoing “ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ” celebrations.
