Kathua: Mr. P.L. Thapa, Chief Education Officer, Kathua visited Government High School Juthana which has been designated as the venue for the base camp of the trekking program for the students of the district. He was accompanied by Mr. Sunil Kumar, District Officer for the Youth Services and Sports for the district, and also the supervisor for the camp.
A function was organized in the premises of GHS Juthana in which the students presented various cultural activities and a bonfire was also arranged. The function was Chaired by Mr. P.L. Thapa, the Chief Education Officer for district Kathua and attended by the participants, students from the area, the members of YSS, Staff of GHS Juthana, PRI members and the locals. Mr. P.L. Thapa, Chief Education Officer spoke on the occasion and distributed trek suits and certificates to the participants. Sports uniforms were also presented to extraordinary students from the area who are pursuing higher education out of the village area.
About 120 female students from the schools around the District Kathua attended the Trekking camp organized by the District Youth Services and Sports department, Kathua in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education Jammu and Office of the Chief Education Officer, Kathua. The camp is being supervised onsite by Mrs. Kiran Slathia, Physical Education Lecturer, GHS Budhi & Mr. Naseeb Chand, Physical Education Master and Activity Coordinator for Youth Services and Sports along with about eighteen Physical Education Officers from different zones of the district.
Mr. P.L. Thapa, said that despite being geographically secluded and feeble availability of technical connectivity and shortage of other resources the students of the area had succeeded more than expected and excelled in various fields and made the village proud which was quite appreciable. The CEO said as a recognition of the efforts of these students, he would push for prioritizing High School Juthana to transform into a Higher Secondary school as soon as possible so that the students of the area can pursue higher classes without leaving the area. Mr. P.L. Thapa emphasized and encouraged the female students to come forward and achieve their goals in life. He urged the parents of the area to be instrumental in the success of the students and assured them that he would be there to guide and help them at any point in time.
Addressing the participants of the trekking program, he said it was a wonderful chance for the students participating in the trekking program to explore the beauty of mother nature and freshen up their minds. He thanked the team of Youth Services and Sports, Kathua, and the school staff of GHS Juthana for organizing and managing the event. Mr. Sunil Kumar, DYSSO Kathua said that these collaborations are always welcome since they contribute to the noble cause of welfare and health of students, and the Department of Youth Services and Sports is always available for the same. He said that YSS has arranged for everything feasible along with the safety provisions for the students as required in COVID SOPs.
