Science Teacher From District Kathua Brings Laurels To J&K

Kathua: With the inclusion of Mr. Harpreet Singh, a humble & hardworking teacher from GHS Logate, in the top ten representatives to compete at National Level in the Indian Science techno Festival (ISFT2022), another feather in the cap was added to the string of achievements of district Kathua. Mr. Harpreet is among the 2 teachers who have been selected to represent Jammu and Kashmir at the national level is in itself a proud moment for the Kathua district.

Under the umbrella of ‘Azaadi ka Mahotsav’ several activities & events are being celebrated across nation by the Government of India with the active participation of one and all at different levels in different departments with great gaiety.

In the same vein, Indian Science techno Festival (ISFT2022)  is being celebrated in affiliation with ‘Vigyan Prasar’ under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Raman Science and Technology Foundation (Gujarat), National Council of Teacher Scientists, (NCTS) and APJ Abdul Kalam’s National Institute of Young Scientists

The Indian Science Techno Festival (ISTF 2022) was organized by the combined council in the last week of January in which teachers and students interested in Science and Mathematics participated and competed at the national level on virtual platforms.


A competition among teachers in Mathematics and Science from primary to higher secondary was conducted in three categories viz Innovative Teaching Learning Model Presentation, Science Short Story Presentation and Innovative Teaching Methodology Presentation. Many teachers from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir also participated in the competition and after a grueling selection at zonal & district level, a total of two teachers were selected to represent the UT at national level.


Mr. Arshad Hussain from Kishtwar district and Mr. Harpreet Singh of Kathua district outshined other competitors and ensured their place in Mathematics and Science subjects and were placed among the top ten selections for the national level competition.

The next stage of the competition was held between 15th to 18th February, 2022 and top three competitors will be selected as national representatives.


With the inclusion of Sh. Harpreet Singh, a humble and hardworking teacher from GHS Logate, in the top ten representatives, another feather in the cap was added to the string of achievements of district Kathua. He will be representing the district & UT under the prestigious category ‘ Innovative Teaching Model Material Presentation Competition’ at ISTF 2022.

It is a matter of great joy for Kathua district said Mr. P L Thapa, Chief Education Officer of Kathua, while congratulating Mr. Harpreet Singh and boosted his morale.  Mr. Thapa wished Mr Harpreet Singh luck so as to continue progressing in the field of science in future also.

Along with this, Mr. Thapa assured Mr. Harpreet Singh of all possible help and cooperation from his office . He also said that teachers of the district should take inspiration from Mr. Harpreet and should participate enthusiastically in such competitions.


In a conversation with the team of Media and Community Outreach Cell of Kathua district, Mr. Harpreet Singh said that this competition is a great medium to bring innovative ideas in the field of science onto the public platform and not only the students but also the teachers can bring the scientists hidden inside them to the forefront.

He also thanked the worthy CEO and    extended his thanks to Sh. Kuldeep Gupta, Lecturer GHSS Arnia Jammu who is also the Zonal Director for North Zone, National Council of Teacher Scientists & State Director for APJ Abdul kalam National Council of young scientists. Sh. Harpreet informed that Sh. Kuldeep Gupta has been instrumental in not only providing the much-coveted platform but also in encouraging & guiding the teachers and students to come forward to explore their talents. With his efforts, two of the teachers from the Government schools of Jammu secured bronze medals in TLM convention at national levels in ISTF2021 & two students of state secured silver medals in science model representations in the same event. The main mission for him is the upliftment of teachers & students of J&K in particular and of nation in general.

Mr Harpreet in his message to the students and teachers said that one should have faith in his abilities and work hard towards achieving his goals. Rest all will fall in place once you set foot on the right track.
