DSEJ trains 61 teaching faculty as MASTER TRAINERS on ART BASED tools for Social emotional learning of students.

Jammu: In order to impart Social Emotional Learning among students and teachers, Directorate of School Education, Jammu in collaboration with Piramal Foundation (Kaivalya Education Foundation) and Red Pencil International trained a cadre of 61 teaching faculty as Master Trainers under the Art-based Capacity Building Training project.

These faculty counsellors are now well-equipped in implementing Art based interventions in schools to achieve emotional insights and provide a platform for self-exploration.

The theoretical base of this training derives from the framework of Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) that strongly emphasizes on developing Self-awareness, Social awareness, Relationship skills, Self-Management and Responsible Decision-making.”

The training was imparted by international trainers (viz; Ms. Yen Chua from Singapore, Ms. Renu Thomas from UAE Ms. Latika Joshi from Tanzania, and Ms. Roshni Bhatia). The training was completed in 6 months, in two phases. The first phase comprised of an Introduction Training of 3 months and On the Job Coaching of 3 months in second phase, through hybrid mode (virtual plus offline).

The felicitation function was organized today at SRML Jammu in which master trainers were felicitated by Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director School Education Jammu. He said that New Education Policy 2020 lays emphasis on the importance of Social Emotional Learning.

Therefore, the present education system must develop not only cognitive capabilities but also social emotional and ethical capacity of individuals. He further said that the intervention shall further be implemented in cascade mode whereby cadre of trained counsellors will further reach teachers of the even remotest districts to ensure holistic development of each and every child in Jammu Division.

The ACBT project capacitated teachers on using Art-based tools with children to enhance their emotional well-being and support them perform better academically.

Director School Education Jammu also congratulated the Piramal Foundation and Red Pencil International for successful collaboration of this project. He also congratulated the Team Counselling DSEJ for successful completion of the project. He also acknowledged the need of such projects in reducing mental stress of students and also for holistic development of students.

Dr. Romesh Kumar, In-charge Counselling cell DSEJ said that the vision of the counselling cell DSEJ is to develop an expert cadre of teacher counsellors through such capacity development programmes for ensuring well-being of children.

Ms. Laurence Vandenborre, Founder Red Pencil International, Mr. Jahangeer Bhat, Program Manager, Piramal Foundation, Ms. Roshni Bhatia, Ms. Yen Chua, Ms. Renu Thomas, Arts Tharapists along with the team of Piramal Foundation participated in the event.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the content and format of the training program. They thanked Directorate of School Education Jammu for providing exposure to such programs.
