Kathua:Following the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), a picnic cum educational tour was arranged for the students of the GBHSS Kathua. As the guidelines prescribed by NEP-2020 which aims at bringing the students closer to our cultural and traditional value following an action-centric approach, the tour was designed by the school authorities which was participated by 220 students and 46 staff members. Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Vaid, Principal GMHSS(Boys), Kathua designed and supervised the whole event with the help of his able staff members.
After much deliberation and proper planning, on the morning of Monday, 6th of February, 2023, the event went under execution. All the participants assembled in the school premises at 8.30 AM, where the worthy Principal addressed the assembled participants. In his address, the Officer laid out the ground rules and spoke regarding the importance of this particular event. He said that the picnics, tours, trips and excursions are part & parcel of life and as important as food and drink in the life of a student. They provide us with a complete opportunity to study the book of the nature. He said that since the Mansar Lake is an important cultural and a spot of natural beauty of Jammu region with a vast variety of flora and fauna, the students would get an opportunity learn about these aspects practically as well as enjoy at the same time.
The participants boarded the 4 pre-arranged buses at 9’o clock in the morning and covered a journey of about 90 KMs enjoying the beautiful views of nature from their windows. After reaching the venue, the students and staff first visited and prayed in the temples of Umapati Mahadev, Lord Narasimha, the temple of Durga Mata & the Shrine of Sheshnag, the Lord of Serpents. The staff members gave a guided tour to the students and shared the history and importance of these places. After the customary prayers, the students were offered a hearty breakfast and a cup of tea. The meal was followed by a visit to the local zoo situated along the bank of the lake. The students also went on to feed the fishes in the lake which is also a traditional custom as the large schools of fishes that are enormous in size are believed to hold a God-like stature and bestow the worshippers with their blessings. In the afternoon, the students re-assembled for lunch which was also arranged by the school authorities. After enjoying their lunch, students indulged in various play activities and also participated in a group dance. The staff members also participated with the students and made the whole affair more enjoyful and their bonding with the students much stronger and closer. In the end, the students participated in photo-ops, took a lot of selfies and photos and group photos were also taken to permanently etch the wonderful time and a memorable excursion. The students enjoyed the picnic and many of them expressed their desire to visit the spot again. The event concluded safely and the students boarded the buses for their return journey at about 4:15 PM and reached the premises of the institution by 5:45 PM. The Principal thanked all the participants and thanked the staff members for the smooth conduct of the event and providing a wonderful memory to cherish for a long time.
