Former MLA from Ramban and General Secretary JKPCC and a senior Congress leader Ashok Kumar met Principal Secretary to Higher Education Jammu and Kashmir (UT) regarding hike in salary of Lecturers engaged on Academic Arrangement in different colleges of J&K.
In a statement issued here, he said thousands of lectures, teaching assistant, PTIs and librarians engaged on temporary basis in different Government colleges of Jammu and Kashmir are merely getting 12 to 17 thousand per month as both winter and summer vacation salary is excluded for them. Thus, it becomes imperative for government to increase their salary so that they can sustain their livelihood in current scenario of inflation.
Ashok has said that thousands of lectures are working from last 5 to 20 years without any increment and other benefits. This will certainly hamper the moral of teacher and thus impact the teaching learning process in the higher education. Ashok demanded financial security for the Contractual lectures engaged in different Government colleges of J&K.
He strongly urged the Principal Secretary Higher Education to provide a minimum basic salary of Assistant professor to Lecturers so that Supreme Court Judgement of “equal pay for equal work” could be implemented in true spirit. Meanwhile, Ashok also handover a representation on behalf of College Contractual lecturers.
