Poonch Campus Hosts One-Day Awareness Program on Sericulture Focusing on New and Upgraded Techniques

Poonch, October 18 : The Poonch Campus, University of Jammu, organized a one-day awareness program on sericulture, highlighting new and upgraded techniques for local farmers at village Gulpur Poonch. The event aimed at empowering farmers with advanced knowledge and practices to enhance productivity and sustainability in sericulture.

Director of Poonch Campus, Prof. Rakesh Vaid, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Circle Officer of the State Sericulture Development Department, Poonch, Ms. Avinder Kour, was the Guest of Honor.

The program saw enthusiastic participation from farmers across Poonch and neighboring areas, along with students and faculty from the Department of Sericulture.

In his address, Prof. Rakesh Vaid briefed the participants on the significance of adopting modern techniques in sericulture to stay competitive in the evolving agricultural landscape. He emphasized the campus’s commitment to supporting the local farming community through knowledge dissemination and skill enhancement programs.

Ms. Avinder Kour delivered an insightful session, where she elaborated on the latest sericulture schemes and techniques being implemented in the field, encouraging farmers to adopt these schemes and innovations to boost their yields and improve overall efficiency.

The event commenced with a welcome address by the In-Charge of the Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus Dr Rubia Bukhari, who outlined the objectives of the awareness program and stressed the importance of continuous learning for farmers in the region. Her lecture provided valuable information on the latest developments in the field, offering practical solutions to boost productivity and enhance the economic well-being of sericulture farmers.

Dr. Ravi Kant, faculty of Poonch Campus delivered an insightful lecture on recent innovations and techniques in sericulture, highlighting how these advancements are helping farmers increase profits and improve their livelihoods.

The program concluded with a Q&A session, providing an interactive platform for farmers to discuss their concerns and seek expert advice on sericulture practices. This initiative underscores the University of Jammu’s ongoing efforts to integrate scientific advancements with traditional practices, ensuring the economic upliftment of the farming community in the region. Students from the Department of Sericulture shared their views and experiences, discussing the ongoing research and how it has benefited them.

They emphasized how this research is shaping them into entrepreneurs, contributing to cocoon production and playing a role in uplifting the nation’s economy.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks presented by the students of the Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus.

The event was attended by a large number of local farmers, faculty members and non-teaching staff of Poonch Campus along with the members of the State Sericulture Development Department.
