Kathua, August 20, 2024:* Government Higher Secondary School, Gurah Kalyal, marked Akshay Urja Diwas today with a series of awareness-raising activities and an insightful lecture.
Akshay Urja Diwas, celebrated annually on August 20, aims to promote the development and use of renewable energy sources in India. The day was3 first observed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in 2004.
To commemorate this occasion, the school hosted a debate competition in the morning assembly on the topic “Akshay Urja.” Students passionately presented their arguments, emphasizing the importance of embracing renewable energy for a sustainable future.
Following the competition, Senior Lecturer in Sociology, Mr. KC Angurana, delivered an enlightening lecture on the prescribed topic. He explained the various renewable energy sources available, including solar energy, biogas, hydroelectric power, and wind energy.
“Akshay Urja Day urges us to be mindful of our energy use and support programs that promote renewable energy,” Mr. Angurana said. “As the world faces natural resource depletion, it is crucial to shift towards these sustainable options.”
Sr. Lecturer in Chemistry, Mrs. Ranjana Devi, concluded the program by highlighting India’s global standing in renewable energy. “India is currently fourth globally in renewable energy capacity,” she stated. “The ongoing observance of Akshay Urja Day creates awareness and plays a vital role in increasing our capacity even further.”
Students enthusiastically participated in the program and expressed their eagerness for more such events in the future.
“This was a very informative and eye-opening program,” said a student. “I learned a lot about the benefits of renewable energy and its significance for our planet.”
The program was successfully conducted under the able guidance of Mrs. Surekha Raina, Principal, GHSS Gurah Kalyal. The school remains committed to promoting sustainable practices and educating students about the importance of renewable energy for generations to come.
