Bhaderwah, October 22 : In a significant step towards empowering incarcerated individuals, Bhaderwah Campus University of Jammu today inaugurated a two-month Computer Certificate Course for the inmates of District Jail Bhaderwah. The initiative, aimed at providing skill-based education to the inmates, was launched in an impressive function held at the jail premises.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. J.P. Singh Joorel, Rector Bhaderwah Campus, who formally inaugurated the course. Also present on the occasion were Superintendent of District Jail Bhaderwah Mr. Hamiduillah Naik, I/C Head of Computer Science Bhaderwah Campus Dr. Abid Sarwar, along with other officials from Bhaderwah Campus and District Jail.
In his address, Prof. J P Singh Joorel emphasized the significance of skill development programs like this, highlighting their potential to transform lives. “Such skill-based courses can become a source of livelihood for those who take advantage of them. This initiative is not just about learning computers, but about equipping individuals with skills that can lead to future employment opportunities or entrepreneurial ventures,” he stated. Prof. Joorel also commended Superintendent Hamiduillah Naik for his dedication and efforts in organizing activities aimed at inmate welfare.
Superintendent Mr. Hamiduillah Naik, in his remarks, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Joorel and Bhaderwah Campus for their continuous support and collaboration. He underscored the importance of such initiatives in rehabilitating inmates and helping them reintegrate into society post-release. “District Jail Bhaderwah has undertaken several welfare initiatives recently, and this computer course is part of our ongoing efforts to provide inmates with opportunities that can help them build a better future,” he added.
Dr. Abid Sarwar, I/C Head of Computer Science Bhaderwah Campus, delivered the welcome address and presented a detailed overview of the certificate course. He outlined the various components of the program, which will equip the participants with fundamental computer skills, offering them a foundation to build upon after their release.
It is pertinent to mention that last year, a batch of jail inmates successfully completed a similar certificate course, and they were awarded certificates by the Computer Science Department of Bhaderwah Campus. This program was led by the then I/C Head Dr. Jatinder Manhas, and it laid the groundwork for continued efforts to provide inmates with valuable skillsets.
This collaborative effort between Bhaderwah Campus and District Jail Bhaderwah marks a significant step in promoting skill development among the inmates and is expected to have a lasting impact on their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
