JAMMU: With the objective of creating awareness about the importance of voting in a democratic setup and sensitising students about their voting rights, Directorate of School Education Jammu celebrated the 14th National Voters Day, which also marks the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, with gaiety and fervour.
Different events like debates, declamations, mock polls, drawing and quiz competitions, were held in schools across the ten districts of Jammu division.
At the Directorate Head Office Jammu, all the employees and officials including Ms. Subah Mehta, Joint Director, Mr. Vikas Bagati, PO, and Ms. Mamta Sharma, Deputy Director ( Planning) joined the pledge taking ceremony administered by Mr. Ashok Sharma, Director School Education, Jammu, affirming to uphold the democratic traditions of our country encompassing free, fair and peaceful elections.
They also pledged to vote in every election fearlessly without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.
Similar pledge taking ceremonies were held across all the ten district headquarters of Jammu Division under the supervision and guidance of the Chief Education Officers of the respective districts.
Mr.Ashok Sharma, Director School Education Jammu, in his message said that the activities in schools were designed keeping in view this year’s theme of the National Voters Day – ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For sure’ and the fact that the schools are observing winter vacations.
Highlighting the value of vote, he reminded everyone of their role and duty in creating a politically aware society that votes for the betterment of the nation and upliftment of the society.
The special feature of today’s celebrations were that local Public Representatives and social elites also joined the pledge taking ceremonies at various places along with the School staff memebers and children.
