Octogenarian SBM activist provided financial assistance in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, JULY 8: District Administration Udhampur today provided financial aid to eighty-seven-year-old Swacch Bharat Mission activist for building concrete toilet for his home here in village, Badali.

Inspired by the nationwide Swaachta campaign and setting an example for others to follow, Rekha Devi, of village Badali had earlier built a toilet in his house by using mud and stones with her own hands. The name of Rakhi was also mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to nation.

Deputy Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar handed over the financial assistance to Rakhi for construction of a concrete toilet during his visit to the village.

Terming Rakhi as an inspiration for the other women of the village, the DDC appreciated her efforts and said that she had played a significant role in making her village open defecation free

He also urged the women of the village to come forward and contribute their bit in keeping the village clean and green adding that only the collective efforts could help in making the all villages ODF.

Earlier, the DC inaugurated newly constructed SBM toilets and offered Shramdaan at the more upcoming units in the village.

Tehsildar Udhampur, Block Development Officer Udhampur and Secretary Red Cross Society, besides field functionaries of RDD, were also present on the occasion.
