Delhi HC allows petition against Netflix show ‘Sacred Games’ for allegedly abusing and defaming Rajiv Gandhi

A plea has been filed in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday asking directions for Netflix so as to remove certain objectionable scenes from the series titled ‘ Sacred Games’as the content was derogatory to former prime minister of India Sri Rajiv Gandhi.

The petition has been filed by Advocate Shashank Garg, and alleges that certain scenes in the series and dialogues in the Netflix series were defamatory to Rajiv Gandhi and there are “incorrectly depicts historical events of the country like Bofors case, Shah Bano case, Babri Masjid case and communal riots”.

The plea has been filed against Netflix Entertainment, Phantom Films Production Ltd., and the producers of the show.

Earlier, the Congress party activist Rajeev Sinha had filed a complaint on Tuesday against the series contending that abusive language has been used against late PM Rajiv Gandhi. “The serial has crossed all limits of decency and has taken Indian Film Industry to a new low,” the complaint stated, citing the example of words like ‘Fattu’ being used for the late Prime Minister.
