Terming the UN human rights report on rights violation in Jammu and Kashmir as ‘baseless’, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the report ignored the ground-level realities in the terror-ravaged state.
“The report has been penned sitting elsewhere, the ground level facts are different,” she said.
Sitharaman said the Indian forces have shown highest restraint in dealing with the protestors in Kashmir.
Earlier, Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat had also rejected the report, calling it ‘motivated’.
Citing the example of the unfortunate killing of Army jawan Aurangzeb, she said his family members still want to join the forces.
Talking about the situation in Kashmir and high local recruitment, she said the motivation and other logistics for this are being tracked and there is no need to get “alarmed” over it.
Over the last few years local recruitment has been spiralling. With 82 fresh recruits in the first six months of this year the number is likely to go past last year’s tally of 128 which was 10-time increase since 2013 when the number was just 13.
