Neeraj Chopra, India’s javelin star, struck Gold in the Meeting International de Sotteville-les-Rouen in France late on Tuesday night. Chopra, who had won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, threw 85.17 metres to bag the top prize.

Neeraj is India’s top javelin thrower and he proved his mettle once again on the international stage when he won the gold medal with a massive margin.

While Neeraj Chopra threw a distance of 85.17 m, the second best was Adrian Mardare of Moldova who threw a distance of 81.48 m. The bronze medal went to Edis Matusevicius of Lithuania whose best was 79.31 m.

Neeraj’s performance was brilliant as he did not falter in even a single attempt and completed each of his rounds. Even as his score of 85.17 m came in his fifth attempt, he came close to his eventual winning mark in his third attempt as well.

Even as Neeraj scooped the gold medal with the throw, this was not even his best throw this season. Neeraj best throw till now came at the IAAF Diamond League where he improved his own national record with a throw of 87.43 metres to finish fourth in the season-opening leg.

Neeraj’s previous national record stood at 86.48 m and he crossed the same in just his second attempt.

Earlier in the year, Neeraj Chopra struck a gold medal for India with a throw of 86.47m in Men’s Javelin Throw Final at the Commonwealth Games.

Neeraj, who is the World Junior Record holder, threw 85.50m mark in his first attempt itself and stayed on top of the pack throughout the finals.

Neeraj struck his best of 86.47m in his fourth attempt and sealed his Gold.

Neeraj is a part of India’s squad for the Asian Games 2018 and there are high hopes from him as he will be gunning for a gold medal there as well.
