The personal security officer of Union minister Uma Bharti committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver, police said on Thursday.
The deceased policeman is identified as Rammohan Dauneriya. He committed suicide following an altercation with his wife. After the altercation, the couple was being taken to a nearby police station for mediation. But an agitated Dauneriya took out his service revolver and shot himself.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead after preliminary examination.
A judicial probe has been ordered into the case.
Police say on Wednesday night, after getting heavily drunk, Dauneriya started arguing and beating up his wife, Archana; who then informed the police on Dial 100 mobile app. A police team rushed to the spot and it tried to calm Dauneriya.
When the cops failed, they decided to take him to a nearby police station for mediation. While he was being taken away, he shot himself.
After learning about the matter, Station House Officer, Kamla Nagar, Madan Mohan Malviya and Superintendent of Police (City) Satish Snadiya reached the hospital.
The body was later sent for post-mortem.
Police have seized the service revolver and say that preliminary investigation show that the suicide was due to the altercation between the couple. More details will be known once the post-mortem report is out.
