On the pattern of Punjab, the Municipal Corporation (MC) House on Friday approved the proposal of exempting defence personnel, residing in houses measuring over 300 sq yards, from paying property tax. Earlier, it had exempted those residing in houses measuring up to 300 sq yards.

The decision is likely to benefit over 600 defence personnel. The MC will send the recommendation for approval to the UT Administration.

The defence personnel have been pressing for complete exemption on the pattern of Punjab. The MC has also approved the proposal to name Shivalik Garden in Mani Majra after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The MC House has also rejected the proposal of imposing property tax at Hallo Majra, Kajheri, Palsora, Maloya and Dadu Majra villages.
The civic body is losing crores of rupees every year by not imposing property tax in the villages but all councillors opposed the tax, saying the MC should first develop the villages then think of the imposing any tax.

Mayor for removal of dangerous trees

The Municipal Corporation has also decided to bear the treatment cost of Ramesh, who was injured when a tree fell on him at Sector 10. It has been decided to extend all financial help to the injured.
Mayor Davesh Moudgil also visited the PGI to meet him. A committee has also been formed to examine the issue of compensation to the kin of the person who died in the same incident. It was also decided to tag dangerous trees in the city. The Mayor asked officials to remove all 91 dangerous trees immediately. A report regarding dangerous trees was placed on the direction of the Mayor.

Arguments between officials, councillors

Heated arguments between councillors and MC officials were also witnessed. Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav was annoyed when councillor Satish Kainth questioned the intention of officials regarding the maintenance of public toilets. Yadav clarified that there was no question of favouring any company and the allotment process would be done in fair manner. Heated arguments were also witnessed between Congress councillor Devinder Singh Babla and BJP councillor Chandrawati Shukla.
