Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have killed two foreign militants affiliated with Lashkar-eToiba (LeT) in a gunbattle in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
A police spokesperson said the police and security forces today in the early morning hours jointly launched a search operation based on credible inputs about the presence of militants at Par Mohalla in Hajin area of district Bandipora.
“During the searches, militants fired on the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” the spokesperson said.
He said in the ensuing encounter two militants were killed. He claimed that a huge quantity of arms and ammunition including rifles, magazines, pouches etc and incriminating material was recovered from the site of the encounter.
“From the incriminating material seized from the site of encounter, it is learnt that both the killed militants were foreigners from Pakistan and identified as Rizwan alias Jindaal and Ali alias Maaz. Both were affiliated with LeT and were involved in several attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities in the area,” he said.
He added that police has registered a case in this regard and the investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.
